Those two 30-somethings, Diego Schwartzman and Richard Gasquet, found themselves as the highlight matches on the biggest qualifying court at this year’s US Open.

It’s a role they’ve played this year, but not to particularly good effect. Although Monday was a great day

Schwartzman, in particular, might be almost relieved he has announced the official end. But he plays on.

And … Benoit Paire was STILL HERE. He almost lived to play another day. But not quite.

The only Canadian in the men’s qualifying, Gabriel Diallo, was the very last one on court. And after a final game that lasted more than 24 minutes and on his 9th match point, he finally got it done.
