AND you can have … Gaël Monfils vs. Diego Schwartzman.

Schwartzman, still just 32, had to qualify for what he says is the final US Open of his career. Monfils, who will be 38 in a week but is still ranked No. 31, might not be far behind him. Or he might.

Either way it was a tough draw for both, because of the situation they find themselves in. And both Schwartzman and Dominic Thiem got sendoffs.

Also on tap as the first day of the US Open hits on Monday are Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Ruud and Rune, Taylor and Tiafoe, and Rublev and Dimitrov.

It will be sunny and steamy (30C), with good (but hot) weather expected through the first week. At least so far.
