Open Court

MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Rafa memories: Nadal and the grass

The first Open Court Wimbledon was an iconic one: it was the one that ended with Rafael Nadal beating Roger Federer in the dark.

It was a match that will forever be at the top of the list of iconic tennis matches for so many reasons.

As much as Nadal is known for all of those Roland Garros titles, his tennis was actually all the more fascinating when he hit the grass.

He was successful there before he figured out a way to make his game work on hard courts. And perhaps that’s because he knew he had to shorten his strokes and flatten things out and be more aggressive on the grass.

Had he made those “grass” adjustments in his hard-court game earlier in his career, who knows how many more hard-court majors he might have one.

Here’s Nadal on the turf.
