Rafael Nadal spent plenty of time in Canada over the years.
And he had moments. One was way back in 2010 when he and Novak Djokovic teamed up for doubles in a rare superstar duo. And they ended up drawing a couple of young Canadian lads in the first round: 20-year-old Vasek Pospisil and 19-year-old Milos Raonic.
And lost.
And then there was 2009 in Montreal when, having decided to play doubles late in the game, he had trouble (believe it or not) scrounging up a partner. So he teamed up with his coach, Francisco Roig – 41 at the time and retired for a decade.
He lent Roig some matchy-matchy duds. And they went out and defeated Djokovic and doubles specialist Dusan Vemic in the first round.
