No. 1 seed Katerina Siniakova looked prepped to take the double in Guangzhou, as she was in the semis of the singles and the finals of the doubles.

As she should; it was a great vulturing opportunity this late in the season. But she retired deep into the third set of her semifinal. She’s still in the doubles final on Sunday, though.

In Tokyo, the semifinal clash between No. 1 seed Zheng Qinwen and No. 6 Diana Shnaider (who has quietly made her way through the draw) was a good one, but won by Zheng in straight sets.

The Cana-Kiwis, Dabrowski and Routliffe, bowed out in the Tokyo doubles semis to a Japanese pair.
