Félix Auger-Aliassime, who spent time in Switzerland last week getting in some practice matches at a hit-and-giggle on grass, started his Stuttgart campaign with a … not easy one. Especially on grass.
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard beat FAA last year on the super-quick Basel court, although the Canadian got him this spring in Hamburg on clay.
But Auger-Aliassime got through. He gets Justin Engel, a 17-year-old German wild card, in the quarterfinals. Engel is the first guy born in 2007 to win a match at the ATP level; these are types of stats that Auger-Aliassime was checking off for the class of 2000.
(Stuttgart and ‘s-Hertogenbosch are six hours ahead of EDT).
