Félix Auger-Aliassime was looking for a semifinal spot in Stuttgart, were he faces. No. 2 seed Taylor Fritz. But he went out in two close sets.
And Gabriel Diallo was looking to do the same in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, where he faces No. 2 seed Ugo Humbert.
The cover photo flashes back to 2018, when 17-year-old Félix Auger-Aliassime qualified for the Indian Wells main draw and played Milos Raonic.
And Auger-Aliassime’s father Sam, who was coaching Diallo after Tennis Canada soured on his prospects, brought 16-year-old Diallo along for the ride.
There’s only barely a year between them with Auger-Aliassime born in the summer of 2000 and Diallo 13 months later. But, of course, one was a precocious prodigy and the other a late bloomer.
And on Saturday, they kind of endeed up in the same place, with the same kits, in different cities.
But Diallo got through.
(Stuttgart and ‘s-Hertogenbosch are six hours ahead of EDT).
