–
Leylah Fernandez, the No. 5 seed in Nottingham, was looking for her first semifinal of the 2025 season in only her second quarterfinal match of the season.
She also was looking for her third consecutive win for the first time in 2025.
She was 2-0 vs Yastremska, with a win in qualifying in Doha in 2023, and in the first round of the Olympics in Tokyo in 2021. So it’s been awhile. And Fernandez couldn’t get over the hump.
In Berlin, despite a sterling field, only the No. 1 and No. 8 seeds are still alive in the final eight, along with a qualifier and a lucky loser.
In Berlin, the quarterfinal between world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and 2022 WImbledon champion Elena Rybakina was a marathon – won by Sabalenka on a third-set tiebreak.
(Berlin is 6 hours ahead of EDT; Nottingham is 5 hours ahead)
