The Genie révérence begins in Montreal (vid)

MONTREAL – If you thought there were a lot of fans eager to get a moment with Iga Swiatek, there were.

Then Genie Bouchard came along and made that look like a quiet little interlude.

Bouchard came off the practice court after a hit with Can-American Carson Branstine Saturday afternoon. And it started right upon exiting the court.

And it continued. Right through the site.

Here’s what it looked like.

Bouchard great to fans, always

Whatever else you might say about Bouchard, she has never – not for a moment – been anything but great to the fans. It’s been a trademark since the start of her career, and she’s never wavered from that.

Even taking into consideration that this is literally her swan song.

The 31-year-old could have taken a golf cart back to the locker rooms. But she didn’t. She walked right through the site and signed, and smiled, and hugged little kids. The entire gamut.

Bouchard is due to play on Monday, when she will face Emiliana Arango of Colombia. If she can find some “Venus Williams in the first round” type of energy, she could pull off a surprise.

One thing’s for sure, there’s no need to leave anything on the table.
