FLUSHING MEADOWS, New York – The “reimagined” mixed doubles event at the US Open – dubbed “Mixed Singles” here at Open Court, included some bizarre combinations, some last-minute adds and an abject lack of chemistry with most of them.
And the most talked-about pairs – Alcaraz and Raducanu, Rybakina and Fritz, et al – were out quickly, at the first time of asking.
And the only established mixed doubles pair, the one who won a “real” version of the events a year ago, came through for the team.
