After two consecutive days of complete rainouts, the WTA event in Chennai finally kicked off on Wednesday, again with all 16 first-round singles matches on the schedule.

That put them a bit behind, but nothing fatal yet and the forecast looks a lot better (if hot and humid) for the rest of the week.

In Hong Kong, No. 2 seed Leylah Fernandez looks for a quarterfinal spot against the German Eva Lys – who has played a lot of Canadians on this swing – and gets it fairly routinely.
