A big all-Canadian clash in Hong Kong as Victoria Mboko and Leylah Fernandez battled it out not only to get to the tournament final, but for Canadian supremacy.
They were meeting for the first time, and probably not for the last time. Unfortunately, in the middle of the night back home. And after Fernandez took a medical timeout to have her thigh wrapped, all her mojo disappeared and Mboko came back to win.
Meanwhile, in Chennai, a super-intriguing and rare matchup between one-handed backhands.
Golubic, a seasoned veteran at 33, takes on Lilli Tagger, just 17 and a junior Grand Slam champion this year. She’s under the wise wing of fellow onehander Francesca Schiavone.
Tagger was down 2-5 in the third. But came all the way back to win.
