Félix Auger-Aliassime’s left calf was the focus on Wednesday as he tries again, after a day off, and this time against Ben Shelton.
Auger-Aliassime pulled the calf at the end of the first set against Jannik Sinner on Monday. And that was about all she wrote, even if he downplayed it after the match.
As it turns out, after a rather restrained start, it was fine.
The two had only played once – in the third round of Roland Garros in 2024. And FAA lost just seven games. Shelton was just two points away, but Auger-Aliassime pulled it out.
Sinner will face Alexander Zverev, who looked tremendous against Shelton. and who is just 4-5 against SInner in the head-to-head. But Sinner has won the last four, and Zverev hasn’t beaten him since 2022 even if (putting Paris aside, where Zverev had ankle issues) he has played him pretty tight in most of their matches.
(Turin is 6 hours ahead of EST)
