The draw for January’s United Cup was made Monday in Australia (Sunday evening back at home).
And two bits of news: Canada will have Belgium and China in its pool. And they will play in Sydney.
The official schedule was released Tuesday.
It’s an excellent outcome, as there were quite a few wild card teams in the mix.
The six seeded teams were each placed atop a pool; Canada is seeded No. 2.
But Poland, with Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz, were unseeded; they ended up in Pool F with Germany and the Netherlands.
Switzerland, starring Belinda Bencic and the immortal Stan Wawrinka, ended up in Group C with Italy and France.
Czechia, with Jakub Mensik and Barbora Krejcikova, ended up in Group D with Australia and Norway.
And Greece, with Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari – both of whom struggled mightily in 2025, but obviously have the tools – ended up in Group E with Great Britain (Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu) and Japan (Naomi Osaka and Shintaro Mochizuki).
Groups A (USA, Spain, Argentina), C and E will play in Perth.
Canada’s Group B, D (the home Aussies, Czechia and F will be in Sydney.\
The playoff rounds also will be in Sydney.
