The top four seeds in the women’s doubles have made the semifinals. Which meant that No. 3 seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani would have topple the top seeds Friday in the semis, and perhaps the No. 2 seeds (and arguably the best pair in the world) in the finals.
They couldn’t get past the first step.
On the men’s side, there is Jannik Sinner – who played the highest-ranked of the remaining seeds in the semis in Alexander Zverev, as he did at Indian Wells. Different journey, same result.
