Final round of qualifying in Houston while the two European ATP 250s in Bucharest and Marakkech began their event – although in Bucharest, the entire day was rained out.
Two Canadians will battle for that coveted main-draw spot in Houston: Draxl v Galarneau.
They had never met at the ATP level. But they have played twice in Challengers, and once at an ITF 30K – all of them in Quebec. And Draxl has won all three, though the two Challenger encounters went three sets.
He won this one as well – but had to come back from a set down and squeak through a third-set tiebreak.
(Houston is one hour behind EDT; Marrakech is five hours ahead, and Bucharest is seven hours ahead).
