Leylah Fernandez was looking very good to defend her first career WTA title at the Monterrey Open.
She took on No. 5 seed Camila Osorio of Colombia in what delivered as a feisty affair in which Fernandez prevailed – barely.
In Lyon, wild card Dayana Yastremska took on Zhang Shuai to try to complete her inspirational run from on-the-run wild card to champion. But the veteran Zhang had other ideas, and pulled it out.
