MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – The Canadian content was strong Monday, on the first day of the Guadalajara Open.

With Leylah Fernandez to come late into the evening, both Rebecca Marino and Bianca Andreescu got through their opening-round matches in straight sets earlier in the day.

Here’s our report for TVA Sports, which includes a video interview with Andreescu.

Marino had to win a pair of three-setters to get through the qualifying on the weekend.

So she was happy to get through in straights against Ann Li, who is a really tidy player with fantastic technique who rarely beats herself.

Here’s what she had to say about it afterwards.

Next up for Andreescu is Petra Kvitova. First time they’ll meet.

Next up for Marino is Caroline Garcia, whom she played for the first and only time back in … 2010, at an ITF tournament in Toronto.

Another Canadian – Cana-Kiwi Erin Routliffe, also got through with partner Alicja Rosolska in the first round of doubles.

They defeated Kaitlyn Christian and Lidziya Marozava 6-2, 3-6, [10-3] and will play No. 1 seeds Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in the second round.

Here are a few more pics from Andreescu’s win over Teichmann.
