Geneva is the smaller of the two tournaments this week – a 250, with Hamburg being a 500.
But Geneva has Novak Djokovic, who is looking for any kind of form leading up to another Grand Slam where he will try to pull off No. 25.
Djokovic was 5-0 against old foe Marton Fucsovics, with three of those meetings taking place at three different Grand Slams on three different surfaces. But Fucsovics has done better in the best-of-three format, which probably doesn’t surprise you. Still, Djokovic through in straight sets despite that looked like a blister on his left foot.
In Hamburg, a tasty potential matchup between Félix Auger-Aliassime and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard didn’t really … turn out that way. Two more players looking for form, but Mpetshi got back on track last week by dropping down and playing a Challenger tournament – and winning it.
On this day, FAA served at his peak level and got through without TOO much drama. He did not join the FIVE seeds who went out on this day.
(Geneva and Hamburg are six hours ahead of EDT).
