They had played only once – a lifetime ago for both – in the third round of Roland Garros in 2022. Muchova retired, down 0-3 in the third set. (She came back the next year and made the final).

As far as Coco Gauff v Belinda Bencic goes, they had already played five times – three of those this year. It’s now 4-2 Gauff after Gauff snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
