What’s next for promising 15-year-old Félix Auger-Aliassime?
He’s headed to Guadeloupe.
A few weeks after the Canadian Davis Cup team went down to the Caribbean island and took a beating at the hands of France, the teenager has been given a wild card into the Open de Guadeloupe, a $100K+H Challenger that takes place next week.
It’s part of the wooing of the hot prospect, who hasn’t turned pro, by the various sports agencies. The wild card was given to him by Octagon.
Peter Polansky and Philip Bester also will be competing there, so at least he won’t feel all by his lonesome.
Auger-Aliassime, who has struggled with various things this season, posted three good wins at the $25,000 Futures event in Sherbrooke, Quebec during the second week of March.
He was to play the Challenger event in Drummondville the following week, but pulled out before it started with an abdominal injury.
Ironically, that was what took him down a year ago when he first leaped onto the radar of the tennis world at large. Auger-Aliassime, then just 14, qualified for that Challenger by winning three matches, two of them against seasoned pros. He ended up not playing in the main draw because of an abdominal injury.
