Genie Bouchard’s awesome Oz draw

Westmount’s Genie Bouchard couldn’t ask for much more in her first Grand Slam tournament as a seeded player.

The No. 30 seed’s first-round opponent will be Tang, the Chinese WC, and winner of the Asian Australian Open playoff.

Her potential second-round match will be either Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium or Virginie Razzano of France.

She would be seeded to meet Sara Errani of Italy in the third round (good fortune permitting).

See the full women’s singles draw here.

And the seeds in the section of the draw that her sections faces in the round of 16 are … Kristen Flipkens and Roberta Vinci.

You really couldn’t ask for more – and that’s the huge edge you get if you can manage a seed – there’s always hope in the draw that you can avoid a big gun.

Seeded No. 30, there was a chance Bouchard could have met Serena Williams, or defending champion Victoria Azarenka, or Sharapova, or Li Na, or Kvitova, in the third round.

The luck of the draw gave her Errani – no pushover, to be sure. But a best-case scenario.

It’s now up to Bouchard to take full advantage of it.
