MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Calleri new head of Argentine federation

In many countries, tennis federation heads are bean-counter/politician types.

France’s Bernard Giudicelli, Canada’s Michael Downey, Spain’s Miguel Díaz Román.

They’ll let former players be Davis Cup captain, but that’s often where it ends.

But in Argentina, the trend is former players in leading roles.

After a 165-131 vote win over Jose Luis Clerc, Agustin Calleri, 41, was elected president of the Argentine federation. Calleri was a top-30 player in the 00s.

The first order of business: to determine the future of Davis Cup captain Daniel Orsanic (who was a Clerc supporter in the elections).
