Nick Kyrgios’s behaviour in a second-round loss to Karen Khachanov in Cincinnati Wednesday night did not go unpunished.
The Aussie was hit with $113,000 US in fines – $20,000 each for four unsportsmanlike conduct instances, $20,000 more for verbal abuse – and $3,000 for “leaving the court”.
The ATP is looking into whether there might be more, including possible suspension, under the “Player Major Offense” section.
That wouldn’t affect the US Open, under the ITF umbrella.
Meanwhile, Kyrgios watched his friends Jack Sock and Andy Murray play doubles against each other Thursday, legal beverage in hand – and Fergus Murphy again in the chair.
