Statement in Basilashvili domestic violence case

.

Here, via Nikoloz Basilashvili’s attorney, is a statement from him refuting the allegation of domestic violence for which he was arrested last weekend.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, and Basilashvili went to court Sunday, and was released on bail.

Whatever happened, it seems to have occurred in front of the five-year son, Lukas, that Basilashvili and his ex-wife share.

COUNSEL’S OFFICIAL STATEMENT

“In our capacity of Counsels to Nikoloz Basilashvili I, Irma Chkadua, herewith confirm that the domestic violence allegations presented against our client by his ex-spouse on May 23, 2020 are false and totally unsubstantiated.

At this time, we are not in a position to publicly disclose all the investigation materials as the case includes a minor.

Nevertheless, we would like to ensure Nikoloz Basilashvili’s fans that video footage already submitted to the court evidences our client’s position and fully discharges him from the abovementioned untrue allegations.

We trust the judge will acknowledge all the submitted evidence and Nikoloz Basilashvili will be cleared from all charges.”

“Nikoloz has been divorced from Neli Dorokashvili since 2019. The ex-couple has a 5-year-old son, Lukas. In the interest of the minor, Nikoloz Basilashvili wishes to refrain from reporting the deliberate provocative actions committed by Neli Dorokashvili on May 22, 2020.

For the same reason of protecting his son, the tennis player will not be publicly responding to his ex-spouse’s unsubstantiated allegations.

Nikoloz Basilashvili is deeply saddened by the false allegations and the ordeal he had to go through during the last few days; he also regrets the inconvenience for all friends and family members who have gotten involved.

At the same time, he would like to express his gratitude towards the general public for their unconditional support, and he will prove his complete innocence allowing the whole truth to prevail.”
