Petra Kvitova laughed easily in press after her second-round win Wednesday.

There were a lot of upsets of seeded players on the women’s side, as the second round of singles got under way at the US Open.

On the men’s side, things ran more according to form after the Day 2 featured a ton of five-setters and comebacks from two sets to none down.

Here are some highlights from a bunch of the matches.

Adrian Mannarino (FRA) def. Jack Sock (USA) 76 (5) 75 62

Mannarino, one of the 11 players who have had more or less stringent extra protocols imposed on them in the wake of the Benoit Paire positive coronavirus test, has still managed to together two straight victories.

Marta Kostyuk (UKR) def. [31] Anastasija Sevastova (LAT) 6-3, 7-6 (5)

After beating Coco Gauff in the first round, Sevastova falls to another youngster.

Varvara Gracheva (RUS) def.[30] Kristina Mladenovic (FRA) 1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-0

Tough one for the Frenchwoman, who’s in a similar situation to Mannarino and completed melted down in this one after four match points went begging.

Struff now plays Djokovic.
