MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Canadian Zhao among wild cards announced for Roland Garros

Roland Garros tournament director Guy Forget was a little wishy-washy on the possibility of a wild card for Andy Murray during the French federation’s press conference last week.

And in the end, Murray took himself out of the conversation when he turned down a wild card in Geneva, and basically put his return on the shelf until the grass season.

So on Monday, the FFT announced its wild cards for the upcoming tournament, which will be held from May 30.

The great news for Canadians is that through its relationship with Tennis Canada, Carol Zhao has been given a wild card for the qualifying.

Zhao spots a Canadian face during a great effort against former champion Francesca Schiavone in 2018. Zhao will be back in2021 – but without all the arm armor.

Tennis Australia got a reciprocal for Astra Sharma into the main draw, and Olivia Gadecki for the qualifying. The rest are all-French, all the time.

Here are the women’s wild cards.
