Juan Martin del Potro tests it out in Indian Wells (pics)

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – The giant Argentine, who has been struggling with a left wrist issue he says is scarily reminiscent of the problem he had with his right wrist a few years ago, hits out at the BNP Paribas Open Thursday.

Del Potro appeared to be in very good spirits. And he also didn’t appear to be holding back on the backhand, crushing it with fairly decent intensity.

It was the forehand, though, that elicited oohs and aahs and applause from the crowd. Which DelPo accepted with quite a few smiles.

Let’s hope for his sake that the smile, and the wrist, stay intact.
