Roehampton: Frenchman qualifies, with a flourish

WIMBLEDON – After his heartbreaking final-round qualifying loss at his home-country Slam – 27-25 in the third set, over two days – Pierre-Hughes Herbert was pleased about this one.

His reaction at the end sums it all up.

Herbert made the most of it. In the first round of the main draw against 18-year-old Hyeon Chung of Korea, he pulled one out 1-6 6-2 3-6 6-2 10-8.

He lost to Bernard Tomic in the second round in three tight sets (and then went out and won a five-setter in doubles later in the day).

He’s still in the doubles with Nicolas Mahut (with whom he reached the dubs final in Australia earlier this year).
