Rafael Nadal braved a media scrum to go and shake Montreal mayor Denis Coderre’s hand before his practice on Uniprix Stadium court Friday.
Nadal and the mayor, a big sports fan, had met briefly in the players’ lounge before Coderre went out for a hit-and-giggle with Milos Raonic. And, as the Mallorcan walked on to the court for his practice with Tommy Robredo afterwards, he was supposed to stop and shake his hand.
The mayor was surrounded, and either Nadal completely forgot, or he had to make sure he had all his pre-practice rituals handled before the social niceties (you never know. We’re talking about Nadal here!)
At any rate, he eventually came over, and couldn’t have been nicer. How many hands does this guy shake in a year? He always makes it look like there’s nothing he’d rather be doing.
