MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Canadians rolling so far at Junior Davis/Fed Cup in Florida

The Canadians have done what they had to do so far. Now, it’s time to face the Americans.

The three-day American/Caribbean qualifying event Thursday through Saturday features some of the best young Canadians, although some certainly are missing.

The Canadians are the defending junior Davis Cup champions, a title they won last fall in Madrid with the team of Félix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov and Benjamin Sigouin. The Canadian junior Fed Cup girls finished with the bronze, led by Charlotte Robillard-Millette and Bianca Andreescu.

As it happens, Shapovalov (who turned 17 10 days ago) is up the road in Florida a piece, playing in in the semi-finals of a $10,000 ITF pro event Saturday. The junior Fed Cup women probably would have included Bianca Andreescu, but she hasn’t played since the Australian Open. Her coach, Nathalie Tauziat, is captaining the team (and wearing a skirt!)

So far, so good for the older kids. Both squads are unbeaten, as are the American teams they face Saturday. But since two teams make it from each division, all is good.

Here are the results, and the schedule for Saturday. (All the info can be found here, but the ITF team comp sites are a biatch to navigate if you’re a newbie)
