With a new year, comes new gear.
Montreal teenager Félix Auger-Aliassime announced on his Instagram account Wednesday that he will now be part of the infinite Nike family.
The 16-year-old had been wearing Babolat clothes, going along with his racquet sponsor. But as he gets closer to the big time and begins the season playing pro events instead of the junior Australian Open, that’s the play. No doubt he was highly in demand among the clothing sponsors, given his potential.
It’s too bad he isn’t here in Melbourne though, in a way. He’d get a lot more bang out of his Nike debut than he will this week at a $15,000 low-level Futures event in Plantation, Fla.
Auger-Aliassime is into the second round in singles and the quarters in doubles with countryman Filip Peliwo (right).
