INDIAN WELLS – The BNP Paribas Open has been a good tournament for Peter Polansky. Not this year.
The 28-year-old qualified both in 2014 and 2016, when his ranking wasn’t as good as it is right now (two off his career best).
But against young Elias Ymer of Sweden Tuesday night, he displayed little of the aggressiveness that served him so well at the Australian Open – especially on the forehand. The result was a 7-6, 6-3 defeat.
The conditions can be challenging for the early-evening qualifying matches. The temperature drops quite a bit, and the conditions prevalent during earlier practices or match warmups no long apply. Whether that was the case here is hard to say, because Polansky has come through similar conditions when he made the main draw on the two previous occasions.
Here are a few clips from the end of the match.
