It was supposed to be a competition open to anyone – a chance to dream.
If you could get through sectional qualifying and the national playoff, the prize was a wild card into the qualifying at the US Open.
Unfortunately, the USTA has discontinued it after seven years.
“We have seen … that the Playoffs are being utilized by pro tennis players as a pathway to the US Open. This was not how the Playoffs were originally designed,” The USTA said in a statement. “The resources allocated … will be redirected to youth and grassroots tennis.”
