ROLAND GARROS – It’s only appropriate that every year, nine-time champion Rafael Nadal’s birthday falls smack dab in the middle of the French Open.
So he has blown out a lot of candles here.
Here are some of his happier celebrations over the years. As time has passed, though, he’s a little less happy about it.
Even Friday, after his masterful win over Nikoloz Basilashvili (he coughed up just one game), when the subject of his big day came up, Nadal added the qualifier, “unfortunately.”
Most of us can relate to that.
Here are a few shots from Nadal’s Paris birthday through the years. The pinstriped suit he wore for the 2005 celebration at the Café de l’Homme – after his first career Roland Garros – is epic.
This year, the cake and champagne seemed hidden in the background.
Here are the two pics they released of Nadal’s “official” Roland Garros birthday commemoration.
WooHOO!!!! Party!!!
Nadal visited the Tennis Channel. And they gave him a pretty cool gift.

Of course, the best 31st birthday gift he could get would be to celebrate No. 10, in a week’s time.
