If you wondered why the Tennis Integrity Unit rarely catches anyone, Oliver Golding’s experience offers a few possible clues.
The 24-year-old Brit, who’s back on court after an early retirement, played whistle-blower on Alexandros Jakupovic when the Greek player offered him money to throw the first set of their match.
After that, Golding said he was essentially hung out to dry. His anonymity was blown. A year passed before the hearing. And Golding said there was no support or preparation before being grilled by the player’s lawyer.
Lots of food for thought in this ITV report.
