MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Vid: Dancevic a unanimous choice for Davis Cup captain

MONTREAL – Tennis Canada didn’t undertake a typical search to find a replacement for longtime Davis Cup captain Martin Laurendeau.

No resumé parsing, or multiple interviews.

They found what they were looking for right within the squad.

Vice-president of high performance Louis Borfiga contacted most of the players on the current Canadian Davis Cup team.

And they were unanimous in their support for Frank Dancevic as the captain who will lead a multi-generational squad – everyone hopes – to a Davis Cup title.

November a memorable month

Life has changed quite a bit for the 33-year-old, nicknamed “Frank the Tank”, in the last few weeks.

He and wife Nikolina moved into their first home in the suburbs of Montreal. They became parents for the first time last Friday with the birth of Alexander. And now, the longtime pro has a “real” job.

Here’s what he told Tennis.Life about his new challenge.

Borfiga said Dancevic was a man whose qualities become more and more apparent, the more you get to know him.

He said the decision basically made itself.

Meanwhile, Dancevic has no plans to retire from playing. But he’ll balance that with the new priorities in his life.
