Hopman Cup gallery – Genie Bouchard

The Canadian took to the practice court Dec. 30, with coach Harold Solomon and hitting partner Robbye Poole.

It’s the last day of practice before Bouchard and partner Vasek Pospisil take to the court for their 2018 Hopman Cup debut.

There’s been a fair bit going on during the off-season in Genie Land, so it should be interesting to see if there are any tweaks or changes.

Their opponents will be the feisty Australians Daria Gavrilova and Thanasi Kokkinakis, who will definitely have home-country support.

She is up first against Gavrilova in the Sunday day session in Perth (9 p.m. EST Saturday back home), followed by Pospisil vs. Kokkinakis.

Then, a mixed doubles played with the “Fast-4” format even if one side or the other wins both singles and thus clinches the tie.

There is no night session Sunday at Hopman Cup. The always popular New Year’s Eve/tournament bash will take place.

We’re remembering that memorable moment when Marat Safin, who played with his sister Dinara, showed up a little tardy from Russia with bruises on his face after some fisticuffs that possibly (probably?) involved legal beverages.

“I won the fight. I’m good,” he said at the time.

There’s no day session on Monday, New Year’s Day. So all will have time to recover.

Canada plays Germany on Wednesday, while Australia faces Belgium.
