Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who has played just two tournaments and six matches this year, had “a little operation” on his left knee Tuesday.
“Despite an attempt to return to competition, my knee did not respond favorably,” Tsonga wrote on Twitter.
“Everyone is optimistic for a quick return to the courts; our goal is still to tread on the clay this season.”
Tsonga had surgery on his right knee in 2008, missing the French Open. He had left knee issues in 2010 (missing the US Open), in 2013, and again over the last two years.
