After his first-round win in Madrid, Denis Shapovalov said he’s paying close attention to fellow lefty Rafael Nadal.
“I’m trying to pick up on certain lefty things he does (on clay) that bother other guys and I definitely think that’s helped me as well,” Shapovalov told Metro.UK.
“He plays so aggressive on it, when he has a chance he goes for it.”
Shapovalov entered an event nearly every week this spring, grinding it out as a learning experience.
He said clay isn’t a movement challenge, more a tactical one – how to make his game work on it.
