According to Daniel Kaplan of Sports Business Journal, the WTA Tour tour may be about to close a deal with a new title sponsor.
Kaplan hasn’t yet sniffed out which company. But it would end an eight-year vacancy on that side.
The six-year, $88 million deal signed with Sony in 2005 was a record for women’s sports at the time.
By 2010, the company downgraded to “lead global sponsor”, with a drop in value. It was a move the tour said was a “deliberate, strategic move” after the Tour didn’t land any new, major sponsorships for four years.
