Radim Žondra, the 33-year-old arrested for attacking Petra Kvitova in her apartment in Dec. 2016, was charged by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Brno Friday with extortion and violation of the freedom of property.
If found guilty, he faces 5-12 years in prison.
Žondra called the case “absurd” and fake news.
The attack nearly two years ago severed most of the tendons the fingers of Kvitova’s playing hand. She made a near-miraculous, triumphant return to the Tour.
The investigation was closed last November. But an anonymous tip led to Žondra’s arrest in May. The investigation ended in August.
