Gasquet starts 2019 on the shelf

Richard Gasquet couldn’t even try to help Team France defend the “final” Davis Cup last month.

So you know he wasn’t in good shape.

And the groin-area injury that has bothered the 32-year-old since the Paris Indoors already has him out of the Doha tournament, which begins in less than a week.

L’Équipe reports that the No. 1-ranked Frenchmen hasn’t even picked up a racket this off-season. And he’s officially out of the Australian Open, too.

Gasquet was beaten in the third round in Melbourne this year, and reached the final in Montpellier in early February.
