Safarova and hockey’s Plekanec expecting

When Lucie Šafářová turned up at the Nun’s Island tennis club in Montreal to hit with Canadian Françoise Abanda in May, she was in town because her boyfriend was there.

That would be longtime Montreal Canadiens star Tomáš Plekánec. The pair announced last week that they are expecting a child.

Šafářová, still just 32, retired at the French Open after playing a limited doubles schedule in 2019.

Plekánec has two sons, Matyáš and Adam, with singer/actress Lucie Vondráčková. They married in 2011.

Last summer, their breakup and his relationship with Šafářová were big news in the Czech Republic.
