The ASIC, Australia’s Securities and Exchange Commission, has launched proceedings against two former Tennis Australia directors, Harold Mitchell and Stephen Healy.
They’re accused of facilitating a five-year Australian Open TV rights extension for Channel 7, failing to inform the board it could get more by putting it up for bids.
Mitchell is accused of funnelling confidential information about rival interest and the board’s negotiating position to Seven.
Seven had the rights for 40 years. Channel 9 won them in March for 70% more money.
Healy, the former TA president, resigned after the 2017 tournament. Mitchell retired from the board last month.
