PREVIEW

Here it is – the day tennis has been waiting for.

Monday afternoon in Palermo Italy will mark the first day of main draw play on either the WTA or ATP Tours since … the Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey, Mexico the first week of March.

For the men, it’s been since late February – the Santiago, Dubai and Acapulco tournaments. They are scheduled only to return in several weeks, in the US Open bubble, with the relocated Cincinnati tournament.

The 31st Palermo Ladies Open got through two rounds of qualifying over the weekend without incident, although there was one reported positive COVID-19 test for a player upon arrival, who would not have had access to the grounds until the test result came back.

The first event back suffered a bit of a blow before it began when world No. 2 Simona Halep decided she health risks were such that she didn’t feel comfortable travelling to Palermo.
