Quite the full-out Challenge Court ensemble on Sloane Stephens, during her Zoom virtual press conference following a second-round win Thursday.
Stephens has rolled through her first two matches – dropping six games to Mihaela Buzarnescu, and just four against Olga Govortsova.
The next challenge is at a different level.
Stephens faces No. 3 seed Serena Williams, against whom she is 1-5, for the first time in more than five years.
It is an exceedingly tough little section of the draw. In fact, it’s the only section in which all four seeds, in tennis parlance, “made their seeding”.
