Russ, I find your comments to be a bit harsh.
Stephanie doesn’t OWE us anything, and we get a lot more ‘local’ news from here than anywhere. Anywhere else is like trying to find Vancouver Canucks news on Sportsnet – it it ain’t Leafs, you ain’t gonna get it!
So, tone it down a bit, and appreciate the site. If you want more, do your own research.
It’s always the people who know the least whose opinions are the harshest.
I don’t know what his problem is. But it’s definitely not my problem! Thanks for the support.
Please tell me how come Mladenovic withdraws from doubles with a “leg injury” and then plays singles and upsets Sakkari. Didn’t notice anything wrong with her legs.
As for doubles, great to see it in ATP Cup but only one women’s doubles match shown all week. Aren’t you a women’s libber who stands up against inequality? But that is water under the bridge now.
Just tell me how come Riske and Zhang didn’t play in the warmup tournaments last week. That made them easy pickings this week.
So good when bigtime play by play guy Chris Fowler commenting on Pospisil’s poor play vs. Medvedev that color analyst Darren Cahill politely points out that the Canadian was in strict quarantine for 2 weeks without being able to practice.
“Women’s libber”. WTF?
What century do you operate in?
Happy to post your opinions. But we’re done here.
There are plenty of answers to all your questions. But you don’t seem much interested in hearing them.
Who is responsible for the death of doubles on TV? There have been no matches this week on Tennis Channel Plus, although there are plenty of open slots on its grid. I read Tennis Forum to get news I can’t get anywhere else because of the dearth of coverage of the sport by the tennis media sites. Someone there wrote he didn’t see a doubles match or two even on WTA TV. Yet there are bandit streams on the internet showing doubles (but can’t get because of their technical problems), so somebody must be televising them but to who or where, who knows. The tennis media should be questioning the WTA on this because if we can’t see matches we will lose interest in the sport and you will have no readers. This is the reason as you say doubles is of interest to “only a limited number of people.” When doubles is given exposure like at Wimbledon and Aussie Open, I have seen stadiums packed. The Bryans were more popular than 90 percent of the singles players.
Thankfully, next week we have ESPN covering the Aussie Open and they show all the matches.
These are 250-level ATP events. It would be exceptional if they DID show the doubles.
Your cherry-picked arguments are … fascinating.
But I would posit that in a week when SIX tournaments were being held on site, at the same time, including one added at the last minute, with literally hundreds of matches going on, is probably not the right moment to choose to air your doubles grievances.
OMG – they missed a doubles match OR TWO ON WTATV when there were three tournaments going at the same time, rain. A whole day of retests, walkovers galore. I mean, are you actually serious?
And there was doubles as part of every ATP Cup tie. C’mon.
We can get the news on the top stars at any one of several tennis sites. But what can make your site distinctive and a must read for serious fans is to be the site of record (like the old saying the newspaper of record), giving us what we can’t find anywhere else. I can find out always in newspapers the reason a baseball, football, basketball, etc. player doesn’t play whether by injury or personal problem. But not tennis.
btw, read on a tennis forum Mladenovic dropped out of doubles not only here but for Australian Open. That is big news when Grand Slam champs drop out. Curious it was reported she has leg injury and is remaining in the singles. She really doesn’t know where her bread is buttered because she would make a lot more in doubles there than singles. Poor Babos.
Thanks for all the advice.
I’ll pass on your advice to Mladenovic, too. But you may be basing that advice on several assumptions that likely are not accurate.
And I suspect you’re also failing to consider a host of other factors.
As soon as someone types “read on a tennis forum” … that’s pretty much where I stop reading.
There’s a little bit going on here in Melbourne at the moment, Kristina Mladenovic’s doubles plans are about 1,695 on my list. (It’s only big news to a relatively limited number of people!)
Your order of play has Li vs. Riske. But tennis.com has Li vs. Perez. Which is it???

If there is a change, can you give reason why? Can never find reasons for players dropping out. Can you give us a list? e.g. Why did Mladenovic and Babos drop out. When major singles player like Andreescu drops out, we get story. But on many others, we don’t. That’s why we read this site. You have been good at running this info down!
Riske is out.
I Tweet this stuff a lot when I ask and know it. I don’t necessarily write about it here. The people interested are a … small sample size. 🙂
But there are so many pullouts this week that it would be a full-time job to keep track.
Andreescu’s statement about withdrawing literally did not … give anyone the story. It said nothing.
Let’s just go with a general “slight niggle coming out of quarantine don’t want to risk the big one” as an overarching reason.
I’ve spent more time chasing down what Riske is wearing rather than why she’s not playing singles, tbh.
