The legacy of having won Roland Garros last fall still looms large for Iga Swiatek.
She finds herself the co-favorite to win the Mutua Madrid Open along with Simona Halep.
And that, despite the fact that she hasn’t even set foot on the clay (at least, not on the match court) since that victory.
Swiatek started off well Down Under – notably, winning the Adelaide tournament after the main event.
But since then, she has only played Miami, losing early to Ana Konjuh. And she hasn’t played anything on the clay, including Stuttgart last week.
It’s a full 64 draw. And despite the absence of top-10 players Serena Williams, Bianca Andreescu (COVID) and Sofia Kenin, the draw is packed with goodness.
