A matchup between the current world No. 1 and a former multiple Grand Slam winner, one that’s the 10th instalment of an underrated rivalry, is all you can ask for in a WTA 1000 quarterfinal.

Petra Kvitova has won the Mutua Madrid Open three times.

Ashleigh Barty has been on a roll since she returned to the Tour in January.

The conditions in Madrid are quick enough, despite the clay, that Kvitova’s power becomes an even more impressive weapon.

But Barty is finding ways to beat almost anyone at the moment.
